- Art is definitely!
Lots of people can express their imaginations in somewhat similar manner but this is clearly different from the brazen act of stealing of another person’s works, ideas, words etc without giving proper credit to him/her.
It’s a criminal act and people who indulge in such belong to the jail.
This is common with most producers and directors in the music/movie industry around the world, they usually binge on upcoming artists by stealing their works, co-opting the work for their personal gains.
Ed Sheeran is currently facing a law suit for lifting some lines from Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s get it on” classic for his “Thinking out loud”.
Artists like Pharrell Williams,Robin Thicke, Sam Smith etc have faced such charges too.
Bringing it closer home, Austine Garuba Ahmedu a.k.a Black face has sued Innocent Idibia a.k.a 2face(both are ex members of the defunct Plantashun Boyz band) for stealing his song “Let somebody love you” and African Queen, the judge is yet to give a verdict on this.
Most of these kind of theft happens daily in art.
It is important to remain original in your style as it helps sell your brand.
Can this plague of plagiarism ever be eradicated?
