Nigerian music icons Burna Boy and Ayra Starr have once again earned a coveted spot on the annual summer playlist of former US President Barack Obama. On July 20, 2023, Obama revealed his carefully curated selection of songs he enjoys during the summer season, and this year, he included Burna Boy’s latest track, ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World,’ and Ayra Starr’s 2023 release, ‘Sability.’
These two talented Nigerian artists join the ranks of other international superstars such as Jorja Smith, SZA, J Hus, Drake, Nas, and Rosalia on the impressive playlist, which features a mix of classic and contemporary records.
It’s not the first time Burna Boy and Ayra Starr have received this honor. Burna Boy’s song ‘Last Last’ was featured in Obama’s 2022 summer playlist, while Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush’ made it onto his 2022 end-of-the-year playlist.
Nigerian musicians have been increasingly gaining recognition on Obama’s playlists in recent years, with the likes of Wizkid, Rema, and Tems having also been featured in previous editions.
